The Future for People with Malignant Mesothelioma
While malignant mesothelioma is still a terrible disease, more work is being done on it in the medical arena. Funding for research on malignant mesothelioma does not exist at the same level as funding for other cancers, but clinical trials with new medications and procedures are on-going. The survival rate for some groups of people receiving certain treatments is rising. Persons who wish to be involved in clinical trials should discuss this issue with their doctor. There is also good information available from the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Health, the American Cancer Society, and other organizations.
What will happen on the political and legal front is uncertain. People with malignant mesothelioma who are concerned about their rights to compensation need to find out where their Senators and Representative to Congress stand on the issue and share their own thoughts and experiences with their Congresspeople.
In all events, people with mesothelioma will benefit from educating themselves as much as possible on the subject and from finding support in groups of other people who have the disease. Though malignant mesothelioma is a rare disease, it is becoming much less hidden to society in general. People diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma do have options for taking control of the disease and working for a better future.
